How to Make and Sell Your Own Digital Info Product
If you ask internet marketing gurus, "What is the best way to make money on the internet?" most of them will tell you the same thing "Sell your own (info) product!".
But why should you make your own product when there are so many other great products to promote which pays hefty sum of commission? Because the one who make big money is the creator/owner of the product. Once you sell an info product you have plenty of chance to cross-sell and up-sell which will make you even more money.
This article will cover the steps in making your own info product. There are five in total and we will now start with the first and most important one...
Step #1: Find the market of buyers
You can't just write about things you like and hope people will buy it. That might work but the first sensible thing to do when making an info product is to look for lots of hungry buyers. No need to go crazy about this because a simple market research will do.
For this article let's pretend you're making a digital info product about internet marketing. Some people will tell you that it's a saturated market but the fact is everyday people buying and selling digital goods related to internet marketing. As long as you got some good information to offer people will buy.
Now, go to Google and search for "internet marketing forum" and visit the top ten or twenty forums. See what people are asking about, what is the current buzz and see if you can spot a question which is repeated over and over again in many forums. One question that keeps popping up in internet marketing forums is about email marketing. So let's use that as the topic for our imaginary info product.
Step #2: Research
Now that you find the theme for the info product it's time to take note. Open your favorite word processor (notepad will do just fine), extract the main points from both the questions and answers (Q&A) and write them down. You will also need to write the URL where you find these Q&A. You might need them later on.
Once you got the main points written down place them in several logical categories. For email marketing a sensible category would be:
- Finding the right audience
- Creating an email list
- How to buy an email list
- Preparing the email campaign
- Distributing the emails
- Following up Offgamers
- Analyzing the results
Step #3: Glue them together
After finishing step #2 above you have a draft for your info product. What you need to do now is glue the main points together into an easy to read sentences. It's easy to do that since you already have the main points ready.
For some points you may feel that the answer is little unclear or perhaps ambiguous. What do you do? You ask of course. Go to the forum where the question is asked (that's why you need to save the URL for each pair of Q&A), register as a member and reply to the thread asking the answerer if he/she could clear it up.
Step #4: Choose your format
A digital info product can be as simple as plain text file and yes I have bought several info products containing just a page or two of plain text. As long as you provide valuable information people will buy regardless of the file format. You can also follow the masses and format it as PDF file, ms-word or rtf.
